Make the Change this Real Nappy Week 2013

Our plans for Real Nappy Week 2013

Our plans for Real Nappy Week 2013

The last 10 years & party plans!

As you heard from Joy yesterday, Nappy Ever After turns 10 years old on 28 March 2013.

Nappy Ever After shop

We started as a very local cloth nappy laundry service in 2003, with the Chalton St shop premises taken on in May. As our customers moved to home-washing, we added more nappy brands and accessories to the shop, always on the look-out to stock ethical and organic items. In 2008 we started distributing Bummis, a Canadian ethical brand of cloth nappy, in the UK. In 2010, we launched our online shop. We’ve run Nappuccinos in Hackney, nappy demos all over Camden and Islington and started a nappy agent scheme for Londoners. And in the past year, we’ve begun to offer casual yet informative parenting classes for Londoners.

We promote waste minimisation, green initiatives and familial parenting – all this while continuing to provide face-to-face cloth nappy and parenting advice every week.

Over the last 10 years, we’ve adapted and changed our offering to meet the needs of the parents who come through our shop door or who we meet over the phone. In doing so, we’ve bucked the trend and continued to service the cloth nappying needs of Londoners and indeed some further afield.

Come and celebrate with us on Sunday 24 March from 11.30am to 2pm at Coram’s Fields. There will be a cloth nappy fashion show at 12noon; email alice@lcrn.org.uk for details.

Bring yourself and your children, something to sit on and some food to share. There will be food and drinks but any contributions of salad and cakes will be welcome. Please let us know if you’d like to run an activity session for children such as football, yoga, music-making, circus skills, etc.

We have booked the band room so there will be lots of space for games and if the weather’s good we can play outside too.

We would love to see as many of our lovely supporters from the past 10 years, especially our almost 10-year-old real nappy babies!

If you can’t come, we want to thank you for your support. Without you, we couldn’t have done it!

October Eventastic

We’re all back from the summer holidays now and have five fantastic events planned for the month. Some are in the day and the rest in the early evening, which we hope will be of use to parents-to-be who are working during the day. If you can’t make the planned day/times, please get in touch so we can look at future event days/timings.

These events are in addition to our daily/weekly cloth nappy demos and our monthly Saturday nappy demo (next one, 20 October at 12.30pm if you’re interested but please book as space is limited). In fact, please book for all of the below workshops so we know you can all fit in.

Natural Infant Hygiene Workshop

The first event is at 10.30am to 12pm  Thursday 11 October – Natural Infant HygieneWorkshop with Rachel Richardson. We’ve hosted a number of these workshops and they are always well attended and well received. The workshop provides an opportunity to learn about the practicalities of Natural Infant Hygiene, to ask questions, and to talk to someone who has experience of it. It may also be a way to network with other parents trying this method for the first time.

Natural Infant Hygiene is the natural way to care for your baby’s toileting needs, and a growing number of parents are returning to the traditional practice of offering the baby toilet (or potty) opportunities. If this approach is used, there is no need for ‘conventional’ toilet training, as the child learns about toileting gradually, often starting from birth.

Cost for tickets is £7; booking essential here. Our previous post about Natural Infant Hygiene, sometimes called Elimination Communication, with a resources list can be be found here.

Introduction to Slings and Babywearing

This evening event is from 6.30 to 8pm, Wednesday 17 October and run by Mama Natura’s Becky, a Trageschule Certified babywearing consultant.

This workshop will give you an overview of the benefits of using slings, break down some of the myths and misconceptions, and provide important safety information. There will be a demonstration of the different types of sling commonly available with an explanation of their pros and cons, plus a chance to try out a few with a weighted demo doll at the end of the session, with guidance and tips from a qualified babywearing instructor.

All workshop participants will receive a voucher for 10% discount on the purchase of a sling from the Mama Natura online shop. Cost for the tickets is £8. Booking is essential here.

Normal Birth

Run by Andy and Viv, independent midwives from Maya Midwives, this workshop will take place at 7.30 to 9.30pm Wednesday 24 October. At this workshop you will learn techniques to help yourself – or your partner – prepare for and enjoy a normal birth, whether that be at home or in hospital.

Tickets cost £5/10 individuals/couple. Booking is essential. Contact Nappy Ever After, mail2007@nappyeverafter.co.uk or call 020 7383 5115 for a booking form.

Placenta Encapsulation Information Workshop

OK, this event is on 1 November from 6.30 to 8pm, but we’re including it in the October events anyway! :- This will be an informational evening for parents to learn the benefits of utilising the placenta for healing after birth.

A chance for parents to ask Saskia and Jessica, North London Specialists of IPEN Placenta Network, questions about the 3rd stage, post-natal health and their options with their placenta.

£5 booking fee (partners can attend for free) – £5 off your placenta remedies with your local IPEN Placenta Specialist. Bookings essential here.

We have one more event to share but we’ll leave this for the next post. We’re finalising details this week!

Nappy Ever After

London Advisor network

Nappy Ever After, a not-for-profit social enterprise based in King’s Cross, Central London, is dedicated to promoting the use of real nappies and the associated reduction in waste to landfill. Nappy Ever After provides a cloth nappy laundry service to families in Camden, Islington and Hackney, and has a retail shop in King’s Cross which sells nappies and accessories for home washing. They offer weekly demonstrations at the shop on Tuesday afternoons, timed demos every second and fourth Saturdays of the month and at other times by appointment, to help you find the nappy that best suits you, your baby and your lifestyle.

Nappy Ever After has recently recruited and trained Real Nappy Advisors in 11 London Boroughs: Barnet, Enfield, Hammersmith & Fulham, Haringey, Hounslow, Lambeth, Newham, Southwark, Waltham Forest, Wandsworth and Westminster.

The Advisors are holding monthly Nappuccinos in their home and neighbouring boroughs, where they provide expert advice on real nappy use and stock a selection of the best real nappies on the market, all tried and tested by Nappy Ever After customers and the Advisors themselves. Parents and parents to be are invited to come along to see and try out the nappies and ask questions. Best selling nappies are available to purchase at discounts and you can even snap up a free Sophie the Giraffe on kit purchases!

Purchases at Nappy Ever After Nappuccinos are redeemable via Council incentive schemes and Real Nappy for London vouchers are accepted.

For information and to book into a Nappuccino near you in London, please go to our Nappuccino page.
