One of our goals this year is to get a London maternity unit or birth centre to use washable nappies. Ideally it will be in Hackney or Tower Hamlets. Do you know a midwife in London who’d like to help us? If so, please let us know.
Currently most maternity units and birth centres ask expectant mums to bring in disposable nappies. This makes them seem normal, endorsed by health professionals. It doesn’t have to be that way. Nobles Hospital on the Isle of Man has been using cloth nappies at ‘Janes’, its maternity ward for the last 10 years.
Our second goal is to establish a new type of ante-natal course that brings local expectant parents together to make new friends and also discuss options and choices. More details coming up soon.
